Guide

Can I install smart switches if my switch box has no neutral wire?

A neutral wire completes the electrical circuit. Some smart switches and modules need it to power themselves, and many older switch boxes do not have one.

Does my switch box have one?

This differs from building to building and sometimes from box to box. It must be checked by a qualified person, so please do not open live electrical boxes yourself.

Smart lighting without a neutral wire

There are modules designed to work without a neutral wire. During our free site survey we check every box and choose the right module for each circuit.

Your wall switches stay

With a module behind the switch, the manual switch stays connected and keeps working.

Planning before finishing

  • If the walls are still open, ask your contractor to run a neutral wire to the switch boxes
  • Plan wall box sizes and depth early
  • Plan cables for motorized curtains
